Civil society Organizations and communities affected by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria across Cameroon last Friday, September 24, 2021 at Merina Hotel in Yaounde-Cameroon celebrated Global Fund’s 20th anniversary.

see picture here https://awohnews.blogspot.com/2021/09/civil-society-celebrates-global-fund-at.html

The occasion had as objective to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Global Fund for coming to Cameroon and for the lives of millions (about 44 million lives worldwide) saved through its donations. Their contributions over 2decades in the management of the 3 public health dreaded diseases in Cameroon (tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and malaria) have been tremendous and have saved lives of many who today live happily and would have died by now if the funds were not provided like was the case more than 20 years ago.

Statistics show that Global Fund has for the years 2021-2023, planned financing the fight against HIV/AIDS with the sum of 76,224,500,200 FCFA, 10,929,886,927 FCFA for tuberculosis and for 2022-2023, will fund the cost of the Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets (LLIN) to the tune of 66,413,188,408 FCFA. This shows a sum total of about 163 billion allocated by Global Fund for the fight against the 3 diseases in Cameroon in the next 2 to 3 years.

The occasion was equally an avenue for the organizations and affected communities to enjoin the state of Cameroon and all stakeholders on the decision making table to ensure Cameroon plays her role though faced with the covid-19 pandemic. This is because, for Cameroon to benefit from the totality of the amount, she must make her contribution as part of the funding agreement; about 46 billion FCFA. Also, they continue to lobby that following the Abuja Declaration that calls for increased resources for health, Cameroon should step up the dividend for health in the national budget in the years ahead in other to save more lives. The event was convened among other Civil Society organizations working on the field in Cameroon by Civil Society For Malaria Elimination (CS4ME) represented by Impact Sante Afrique (ISA), GFAN Africa…
